Legend - Rosa Mystica

Mystic Legend 2020-2021

Painted through Winter Solstice, and the Grand Conjunction - Jupiter and Saturn conjunct at 0° Aquarius, as the sun enters Capricorn! Painted during the US elections, and the recent counting of the electoral college ballots.

During Christmas 2020, "the one where we were quarantined," during time as Distant Learning aide for my 3rd grader Grands - who were in preschool when I painted my first Legend

I joined the Color of Woman class last January, as they painted Legend - Oracle and Ally. Filmed several years ago, that was Shiloh's most recent Legend, before MYSTIC, fall 2020.

I've been compiling my lexicon of the Inclusions and Symbols.

Rosa Mystica

I am from the depths of the earth

And beyond the stars

From the grand Conjunction

Cyclical cycles converge

In our times.

I am from the ancestors

From the goddess

From passion and poetry

And the depths of deep silence.

I stand with the trees

The ancestors

The ancient ones.

I am from the Temples

Singing the songs of the Universe.

I call the children home

And send them on adventures, on quests.

I eat stars at midnight,

To shine with their light and ignite others.

I am in you, and you in me,

There are no strangers here.

We come from the stars

Living in the stars,

Go back to the stardust

Turn the world around!

Reflections and Insights

As summer winds down, I enjoy the slant of the sun, and hint of fall in the morning air.
Visionary Medicine Wheel
It's my both month, and I've enjoyed several adventurers: seeing Cindi Lauper and Sir Rod Stewart in concert - oh, that was fun!! A back to school BBQ with my daughter and Grands, and a beach trip with friends.

I've been enjoying the INSIGHT series with Maestra Shiloh Sophia, as we begin to
gather students for the 2019 Color of Woman training. This is an exciting time, as women respond to the call of their Muse, to go deeper and explore aspects of creativity and leadership. I am staring a new phase myself, as in enrolled in Jenafer Owen's program Giddy-Up training for online offerings - hold onto your hat!!
And I've been exploring Instagram, a whole new platform!! It's been fun playing with my pictures for posts, mashing little montages (which don't always behave!) And meeting new virtual friends! I love the journal pages @quantummemoir does, and ... I'm @nadyakingartist ❤

We are each on a journey, and sometimes we "play small" or downplay our accomplishments, under the impression that is somehow better - were you ended told you were "to much," "too loud" "shouldn't brag" ... Most of us were at some point! Here's the thing, living small doesn't serve anyone! And we can be proof of what we're accomplished without denigrating anyone else, in fact, they may be inspired!

If you journal, I invite you to take the time and record some of the things you accomplished this summer (or winter for our Southern mates) - a list, some sketches, however you choose! And then record some goals. A little vision flower is a fun way to connect with your values and goals.

  • Recent achievements I'm pleased with
  • I'm HåPpÎeSt when I take time to _________
  • This fall/ spring I'd like to _______________
  • My secret goal is _________
  • Some of my values are __________ (family time, being true to my word, harmonious relationships)

Summer Rambles

Summer is fair time in my part of the world, and the last several years I've been going to the Columbia County fair to watch my middle Grands show their horses and chickens for 4-H, and prepare their art for the open class. They both entered drawings, and Gregory, 12, got a special award (plus art supplies!) for one of his paintings! We stay in my son's camper, and I was glad it wasn't too hot this year.

I grew up going to the Deschutes County fair, which was only a few blocks from my first home. Mid June, I was home in Redmond, camping at the fairgrounds (now near the airport) with my classmate Nancy for our 50th HS reunion. (!!) Growing up, I was in 4-H sewing, and also entered art in open class. I remember the anticipation, wondering how my work would place!

With these adventures, my canvases have been rather neglected, ...Gregory and I enjoy
Stella Polaris sketches
sketching between events, and my watercolour watercolor crayons are great for this. I played with faces for Stella Polaris, lady of the north, an online class with my friend and color of Woman classmate, Grace Steenberg

Grace lives in Denmark, and several years ago travelled to visit a sculpture carved by our intentional creativity "grandmother,"' Lenore Thomas Strauss which is on a remote island. You can view the photos here.

Stella Polaris, light of air
I have danced with the elements on my Stella Polaris canvas, the last being air.
Today is full moon in airy Aquarius, and another eclipse. My Red Madonna canvas is calling for attention as well , ....what's on your easel or worktable?  HåPpÝ Paint Party Friday!!

Apothecary containers

Our Intentional Creativity community is working with a painting process Shiloh and Jonathan are calling Apothecary Medicine Painting. This includes distilling old stories and tragedies, to  transform them into Remedies.
Jonathan served as a military EMT, parachuting from a helicopter to provide first aid, the traumas he was involved with led to PTSD, which creative processes (he's a chef and poet) helped him transform those old traumas.
With this process, we each have been spending time pulling our some of the stories, to distill down into antidotes.
I'm beginning to put my symbols on the vessels, and write the prescriptions.

Vessels in my Apothecary
Our journey began March 31, and in addition to the painting process, identifying traumas, and discovering antidotes, Jenafer Owen has been offering a daily journal prompt. I love her method of writing with watercolor pencils, then adding collage, and activating /transforming the words with water!

Alchemical jars - we wrote, drew jars in Sharpe, and choose images that appealed for five remedies.

Elements
I adapted this for our Red Thread Circle last night, dividing a sheet of Mixed Media paper into four segments, journaling about an element in each (earth, air, fire and water) and choosing magazine images for each element.

This was a good warm up for our next class, in a week, my cohort Sepha and I will invite our students to connect with the elements as they paint "Gaia as a Portal"

Bezoar
Bezoar - Harry Potter fans will recognize this ancient universal poison remedy. An "indigestable" irritant in an animal's stomach or intestine (hair, etc) is transformed into a solid mass, a Bezoar.
We drew a winding form in our journal, connecting the end with the start of the line; and used watercolor pencil to write about the "irritant" bellow the line. Then choose another color to write the insight, and skills learned from it. Last, use a brush and water to activate the alchemy.

The next step is to add the Bezoar to one of the medicine containing vessels on our canvas, with the same colors. It looks rather flower-like, doesn't it?

This morning's prompt was to use a 'Random item Generator' to give us several items pertinent to our alchemical journey! Mine were rubber gloves, masking tape, a snow globe, and a plush bear. I've been drawing and painting with my Grands, home on an inservice day. I used blue painting tape, for painting my Atelier, the gloves allow me to "dig in"

I asked the kids for ideas for the show globe, and when Z-man suggested Santa, I
remembered the Herstory of a Sun Goddess crossing the sky in a chariot pulled by a reindeer. She flies on Winter Solstice, spinning the sun's rays, and dropping Amber (from her tears) and apples!

I discovered parts of this story when I was painting the Celtic lady, Elen Star-Path. So I brought the Latvian Saule into my globe! My middle granddaughter suggested the word JOY.

Mr grandkids have been enjoying playing with watercolor and Inktense pencils as well, and seeing what happens when they activate then.

What's on your easel or table?

Cards and encodings

In our third Moon of Red Madonna, we're painting our YES to arriving on the planet, then
Blooming into Yes!
stars, the cosmos, and encodings our symbols, ..

I'm just at the blooming into Yes stage with my canvas, but LOVE seeing the glyphs and patterns which are emerging! We will be painting for 26 moons (two years), so this is all underpainting.
My next step will be adding stars and Cosmos ...

Last night for our Red Thread Circle, we worked with Mark making, first painting simple backgrounds on watercolor paper, then tearing into cards, and scribiing symbols.
Making cards is one of my favorite simple projects, and can take many forms. One participant cut pictures for collage, my granddaughter and I painted symbols.

I am gathering information and choosing images to create an Oracle Deck, inspired by my conversation yesterday with my RT SiStar Isha. I find this article on the process helpful. Have you created a deck?

Are there marks or personal symbols you find appearing in your art?
How do you sign your work?

My initials are perfect for a monogram style signature, N A K , which I slant together...
Now I often use a crown 👑 for my K, as my last names King.

What symbols do you claim?

New Year Altar Collage

2009 begins.
I spent NY eve doing a wee altar collage (on the inside of a small box, so it stands up on its own) & then at a NY party with a group of friends.

Sacred space calls, pearls, a red heart bottle, a small buddha, an archway, whispers of presence as we dance into the next phase.

Soon my youngest grand daughter turns four, the wheel turns, life dances on.
